54th Commando Small Unit Leader Course
It almost 1 year before I'm back in blogging again. Well now currently serving my NS as a Commando in Hendon's Camp.
How is one going to prepare for 9 weeks of back to back, demanding training which equips the individual of all the necessary skills in the various fields such as demolition and weapons? Well unfortunately there is no way a person is able to arm himself up without knowing what he is getting himself into.
Before starting the leader course, most of us had heard from some of the instructors how the course might be like but somehow all of them agreed on the fact that it was going to be quite shag and that whatever we do and go through we have to keep pushing on while at the same time steering clear of injuries which was quite a feat.
The first week become quite a challenge to get through with so many things going on at one time. We had our turnout that week, plus being in a bunk full of new people seemed a bigger challenge than anything else because for the first time, when it came to decision making everyone had their own idea on what should be done or how it should be done.
Basically dealing with people with higher confidence level and the conviction they had of their own ideas seemed to be an initial problem which was overcome within the 2nd week of training.
Our training schedule was absolutely insane, or so we thought. We had back to back navigation expedition at Marsiling, Mandai, Lower Mandai, and at Tekong.
After fighting from day to day, carry tons of loads, surviving missions after missions and only rest about 2hr per day. We finally earn our 3SG rank.
It may be tough, but a friend once told me "Tough Time Don't Last, Tough Man Do". It not about how difficult it is, it about how long we can endure it.
